Massage for Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety and depression might plague you in conjunction or separately. The natural correction for these two common ailments is the rebalancing of chemicals in the brain that control these severe emotional responses. Done on a regular basis, massage can be a very effective treatment for
anxiety or depression. Please always speak to a doctor about your condition before altering your treatment plan.
If you find yourself down in the dumps, regular massage will release endorphins, the chemical that gives us that calm and relaxed happy feeling, and it also releases the neurotransmitter serotonin – which is responsible for regulating your mood, among other functions, and is often the target of antidepressant medication.
If, on the other hand, you have chronic anxiety, massage also lowers the hormones that are responsible for stress, cortisol and epinephrine, which can be toxic to the body if experienced chronically. Lowering cortisol and epinephrine helps you ease your mind and often gives your energy level a jumpstart. Frequent massage will help you control your anxiety – the more release you get, the less chance all that stress and anxiety has to build up.
